UA is getting ready to deploy some key improvements this year as part of Capstone Convergence. In early May, a new myBama Single Sign-On will be available. In September, Okta multi-factor authentication (MFA) and the new Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosure process will be available. These changes will make it easier for faculty and staff to access information and make needed disclosures while keeping our systems secure.
May: New myBama Single Sign‑On
On May 10, myBama will migrate to a new Single Sign-On experience powered by Okta. With just one secure login for all UA systems, it’s easier to manage passwords and keep university data safe. This update will change how the login screen looks but will still require verification through Duo. Faculty and staff will see:
- A new login screen that is cleaner and more consistent
- One set of login information for many systems
- Stronger behind‑the‑scenes security
September: New Way to Report Conflict of Interest
The new conflict‑of‑interest (COI) module, part of UA’s modernized administrative tools, will replace the Convercent COI tool and the UA System COI Disclosure process. This updated approach reduces paperwork and manual entry, making it easier and more consistent to complete required disclosures. The new COI process will offer:
- A single location for reporting and tracking conflict-of-interest disclosures
- A workflow that is easier to understand and follow
- Guided questions that help with accurate reporting
- Training that is part of the program starts in September
For more information, see Conflict of Interest FAQs.
September: Okta Multi-Factor Authentication
On September 14, The University of Alabama will move from Duo to Okta for multi‑factor authentication (MFA). This change helps create one simpler, more consistent way to log in across more UA systems, instead of using different login experiences for different tools. For users, that means fewer repeated MFA prompts and a smoother, more predictable sign‑in experience over time.
If you’ve used Duo, Okta will feel familiar. When needed, you’ll receive a notification on your phone to approve your login, adding a quick second step to help keep your account secure. Okta Verify will be available for use beginning June 15. While the app and screens may look a little different, the process stays easy and familiar, making logging in both secure and simple.
Don’t forget! The new myBama Single Sign On is coming in early May! We’ll be sure to keep you up to date as we get ready for the COI and MFA launches this fall.
